HEMPER: India The Garden of Dreams

Hemper began his passion several years ago. It is a wonderful project where, although at first it is only to demonstrate sustainability, now it goes further. They have created a community to build a regenerative alternative to the current fashion model. A slow Fashion that shows that things done well are easy to do, they are good and they are effective.

As they themselves let us know, to regenerate is to weave new connections, it is to use fibers and fabrics that give back to the earth more than what is asked for. It is creating an alliance between respect and equity. It is respecting everything that surrounds us.

Its main material is hemp, also called "weed". But the name does not correspond to the numerous advantages of said herb. Hemp is one of the most regenerative fibers that can be found today on our planet. With it they have been able to generate an innovative ecosystem, so much so that at the moment they have a positive impact on society, culture and the environment.

They define themselves as social and environmental activists. A trip changed their lives, when they were in their twenties they went to Nepal as social workers and there they fell in love with a community of artisans that inspired them to create what Hemper is today. What today is this honest brand.

Hemper

Handmade is the most important word

Artisanal means handmade. Handcrafted by local Nepalese artisans. Hemper decided to change the rules of the game. In a world where techniques are automated in large polluting factories, Hemper went back to the traditional. The hands of artisans and artisans to create products, using traditional techniques and processes that were about to disappear.

Hemper products have been created thanks to the alliance between the communities of local Nepali artisans and the respect for a job well done using the appropriate production times. This is how a brand is built.

The hemp used by the artisans is wild. That means that it is not planted by people, but grows naturally and only needs water, soil and sun to grow. The best thing is that being wild it does not need pesticides or herbicides, it consumes ten times less water than a cotton plantation, it is the plant with the greatest CO 2 regeneration power, it blocks UVA rays and regenerates the substrate, returning more 60% of the nutrients to the soil.

New ways to go out into the world

Hemp is very efficient and has a multitude of uses. When Hemper started making his backpacks, he didn't want to use any chemicals. That is why they also chose to use natural dyes. To achieve this they chose to use minerals, roots, plants, shells and fruit. It is easily achieved thanks to the fact that the artisans submerge the fabrics they want to dye in large pots for an hour, resting roasted over low heat.

Hemper has once again revolutionized the fashion industry by creating the first backpack made with hemp and water repellent. Made with wild hemp from the Bajura region (in Nepal) and ice-dyed with pomegranate and myrobalan. Thus achieving a revolutionary and ideal backpack for any occasion.

Hemper

India, the new inspiration

They passed the mountains of the Himalayas in search of new fabrics, techniques and processes. They found themselves reflecting on the origins of Hemper and on the responsibility to care for and regenerate our way of inhabiting or moving around the planet. The Garden of Dreams is the result of incorporating block print techniques into his pieces.

In this capsule, they have collaborated with Tharangini Studio. The workshop located in Harrendra (Bangalore) is run by women artisans. They carve and stamp each of the motifs they print by hand.

The print technique is an ancestral technique where hand-carved wooden blocks are used to stamp figures and patterns manually on fabrics, achieving unique and very special prints. They print by hand and with natural dyes such as plants, roots and minerals, achieving unique colors.
